Introduction To Conveyors

The industrial age did bring a lot of advancement in automation techniques. Unfortunately there were still a lot to be done to make things easier and faster. The conveyor system was devised to help workers in factories. Moving parts or materials from one location to another can be tiring. It also requires a lot of time and effort from the workers which pretty much slows down production. Due to this the conveyor system was made to transport materials faster and safer.

The conveyor system is made of a belt which rotates endlessly on two pulleys. The pulleys are driven by an electric motor with varying speeds. It can also be driven by other moving parts which are components of a system. Once the pulleys are powered the belt moves and the materials on it.

The first system was used in the 19th century. Steel conveyors were then invented and later mass produced for other purposes. Henry ford used it in his assembly line at his factory to assemble cars. 

This system is pretty much anywhere possible. Instead of the workers carrying the materials from one project to another, it goes the other way around. This makes production less time consuming. It's also much safer for workers especially when transporting hazardous materials.

New innovations have also enabled managers to gain control of production lines. They can be automated or semi-automated. In this way workers are freed from exhausting work to focus on quality control and higher responsibilities.

There are 4 types being used today. Belt conveyors which are made of rubber are used to transport materials with irregular surfaces at the bottom. They can also have curved sections which make them efficient at sorting mail at postal offices and handling baggage at airports.

Snake sandwich belt conveyors uses two belts facing each other. They firmly yet gently hold materials for steep and vertical inclines. Vibrating conveyors serve as troughs. They can transport materials which require sanitation such as food or work in harsh environments. Flexible conveyors are used in moving products on carriers. This system has low friction rails.

Pneumatic conveyors move materials through tubes using air pressure. They can be carrier systems from one point to another while dilute-phase systems either push or pull air pressure to guide materials to reach their entry or exit points.    

The conveyor belt can be used in a wide variety of areas where transportation of materials from one place to another is concerned. They were first utilized in factories to speed up production and use manpower more effectively in assembly lines. Now you can also see them in other places such as restaurants, public transportation centers, warehouses, and grocery stores.

Sushi restaurants use them to showcase food preparations readily available for customers. Bakeries and pizza parlors use them to bring their products to the oven. In this way workers don't have to go back and forth. You can see conveyor belts carrying goods from the clerk to bagger. You can see them at airports carrying your luggage.  

Conveyor belts are pretty much used in all places where materials are needed to be transported from point A to point B. They can carry the minutest items from microchips to bulk limestone. It's another invention that has contributed to the fast paced world where technology seems to dictate the pace of human kind.
